How can a Doula help?

A doula doesn’t replace your medical team (midwife, OB, or nurses). Instead, I'm there to provide continuous support—something you often don’t get from medical staff, since they’re focused on clinical care.

Here’s how I may help during your birth:

  • Emotional support – I stay by your side during the process, helping you manage fear, overwhelm, or uncertainty with calm reassurance.

  • Physical comfort – Massage, counter-pressure, positioning suggestions, helping with breathing techniques, fetching water or cool cloths—basically, the hands-on stuff that eases the intensity of labor.

  • Advocacy & communication – I don't speak for you, but I can help you voice your wishes, remind you of your options, and make sure you’re heard and respected.

  • Information – I can explain what’s happening in plain language, talk through choices in the moment, and help you make decisions that align with your birth plan.

  • Partner support – I'm not there to replace your partner, but to guide and encourage him too, showing him how to help effectively so he feels confident instead of overwhelmed. I can attend to you so your partner can stay by your side.

The research backs this up: having a doula has been shown to reduce the need for medical interventions, shorten labor, lower the chances of a C-section, and increase overall satisfaction with the birth experience.

Frequently asked questions

What does a doula do?

A doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. I help you understand your options, prepare for birth, stay steady during labor, and transition into life with your newborn with confidence. My role is to support you and the vision you have for your birth.

Are you medically trained?

No. Doulas are non-medical professionals. I don’t diagnose, perform medical exams, or make medical decisions. Instead, I work alongside your midwife or OB to help you feel informed, calm, and fully supported.

Do you hold any certifications or licensure?

Yes. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Colorado with over 20 years of experience supporting women through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I am also certified in Adult/Child/Infant CPR and First Aid. I am currently working toward my Birth Doula Certification and Lactation Specialist Certification through the Doula and Nurturing Traditions (DNT) Network.

Doulas are non-medical, so Doula certification is not required — but I pursue ongoing training so families receive the highest level of support. I also hold full malpractice and liability insurance.

Do you work with Christian families or those who want faith-based support?

Yes. I am a Christian and am happy to support families who desire prayer, Scripture, or faith-centered encouragement woven into their birth experience. If that’s something you want, I honor it. If not, that’s absolutely fine too — you will receive the same level of respect, care, and wholehearted support either way.

Do you work with hospital births, birth center births, and home births?

Yes. I support families in all birth settings, including hospitals, birth centers, and home births. My goal is to help you feel grounded and supported wherever you choose to give birth.

Do you support epidurals or medicated births?

Absolutely. Whether you choose an epidural, an unmedicated birth, an induction, or a VBAC, I support your decisions. My job is to make sure you feel empowered and informed, not pushed in any direction.

When should I hire a doula?

Most families hire between 12–20 weeks, but there’s no “wrong” time. I take a limited number of clients to ensure each family receives high-quality support, so earlier booking is helpful if you want to guarantee availability.

Do you offer virtual support?

Yes. Virtual prenatal, labor, and postpartum support is available for families who prefer that option or when circumstances limit in-person care.

How do I know if you’re the right doula for me?

We’ll start with a free consultation. This gives you space to ask questions, talk through your goals, and get a feel for my approach. You deserve a doula you feel comfortable and safe with.

What areas do you serve?

I serve families throughout Northern Colorado, including Windsor, Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, Severance, Johnstown, Wellington, and surrounding communities.
